1948

Elmer Winter and Aaron Scheinfeld, both attorneys, have a deadline for a project and need additional administrative staff. Because no obvious solution is at hand, the 2 pioneers found Manpower, the world’s first recruitment agency. The very first office was founded in Milwaukee, Illinois, in the north of USA. 

1952

Manpower expands its activities throughout the United States.

1956

First activities in the United Kingdom.

1957

The launch of activities in France.

1962

Manpower launches the ‘employment barometer’, recognised worldwide as one of the most important employment forecasts.

1964

Manpower begins activities in Asia

1965

The famous ‘Vitruvian man’ logo is introduced, reflecting the fact that people are at the centre of Manpower’s activities

Launch of activities in Belgium

1976

Manpower introduces the Predictable Performance System. This unique system summarises the job application process and reveals the parameters for matching jobs to the right people. This system came to form the foundations for Manpower’s ISO 9000 quality programme.

1982

Manpower introduces Skillware. This training programme guides millions of employees worldwide in the world of computers.

1987

Manpower introduces Ultradex™, an exclusive programme for recruiting labourers and guaranteeing the quality, productivity and reliability of their work.

1998

Manpower Belgium receives ISO 9001 certification.

2000

Takeover of Elan Group, Ltd., one of Europe’s largest independent recruitment agencies in the IT domain.

2001

Manpower launches Borderless Talent Solutions in anticipation of increased mobility on the labour market.

2003

The Manpower employment barometer is expanded to 18 countries, including Belgium.

2004

Takeover of Right Management Consultants, world leader in HR and organisational consultancy.

2005

Manpower launches a partnership with the Chinese government, a world first. The partnership develops HR strategies which are fully aligned with the specific dynamics of the growing Chinese market.

2006

Launch of a new brand identity and logo. With this global rebranding, Manpower clearly positions itself as a leader in the ever-changing world of work. Manpower Belgium is presented with the Safety Award, presented by the High Council for Prevention and Protection at Work. The prize rewards Manpower’s efforts to improve the safety of temporary workers.

2008

2010

Manpower Belgium receives the Cap 48 Award for the project Manpower Unlimited, designed to promote the integration of people with an employment disability. The activities of Manpower Luxembourg are linked to those of Manpower Belgium.

2010

Manpower acquires TAPFIN, world leader in innovative solutions for workforce optimisation.

2011

At the World Economic Forum in Davos, Jeff Joerres (President & CEO of ManpowerGroup) announces the coming of the Human Age, in which human talent forms the basis for growth and differentiation in companies.

2011

ManpowerGroup is formed and its activities divided up into 4 brands: Manpower, ManpowerGroup Solutions, Experis and Right Management.
